Hondurans with Disabilities Face Immense challenges

  • Many rural communities in Honduras lack access to quality services for persons with injury or disability.

  • The lack of access to these services leaves many individuals with physical disabilities or injuries without the care they need to fully recover or manage their conditions.

  • VHC’s Therapy and Physiotherapy Project provides high-quality rehabilitation services in rural Honduras through therapy, training, equipment, and support to local healthcare professionals.

Our Work

Our Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Project is dedicated to improving access to high-quality rehabilitation services in underserved communities in Honduras. We have a team of dedicated volunteer medical professionals, including physiotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and specialists in areas such as pelvic floor rehabilitation, pregnancy, and baby feeding.

Our project takes a sustainable approach, focusing on training local healthcare professionals and parents on how to care for individuals with disabilities. By building capacity in the community, we aim to improve the long-term outcomes for individuals and families. Through our work, we strive to empower individuals with disabilities, promote their inclusion in their communities, and enhance their quality of life.

Empowering Through Rehabilitation

Our patients are some of the most vulnerable individuals in the country. Children and adults with disabilities are among those who are most affected by the lack of access to high-quality rehabilitation services in rural areas. Without support, many will be unable to participate fully in their communities, engage and live fulfilling lives.

Additionally, pregnant women and newborns often lack training and care they need. Simple breathing and self care exercises, preparation for birth, breastfeeding guidance and other medical and therapeutic care can reduce risks and improve child development. By working with partners such as Clinica SBJ, CRIC, Santa Margarita, and Hospital Santa Teresa, we are able to assure improved outcomes for the most vulnerable all year round.
